I often find books are more helpful than searching the web for these types of topics. There are so many versions of Word, and this book doesn't mention that. The free online version should have been mentioned and features not available in free online version would have been helpful. I have Office subscription so hopefully this book will help me make transition from older versions.
When I taught computer classes, I created tables that showed differences between software versions. My students found them very helpful. This is one of the worst books I have ever purchased. The author rambles and skips around.

Top reviews from other countries. Purchased to update my Word knowledge. Assumes no prior knowledge of Word and covers many of the essentials as well as some more advanced tasks so is a useful reference for all.
Comes with download able exercises to practice what is being taught and is where I feel the book falls down. The exercises for each topic are all at the end of the chapter rather than step-by-step as the topic is covered which I found inefficient as I had to refer back to the chapter to do certain parts of the exercise plus there was no illustration to check you have done the exercise properly.
The book will help but practicing with your own docs may yield better results than the exercises can provide. This is just what I was looking for. It covers the principles of Word from scratch and although quite a tome I would highly recommend it for anyone embarking on Word at beginner stage or who is past beginner but has been self taught like I have.
I also loved the practice tasks at the end of each chapter which galvanises the learning from each chapter. I could not find any other book that had decent practice tasks in addition to the theory. Very pleased with this book. It complements the Microsoft help guides very well.
